Lizzie's Block

The minute I got your fabric, Lizzie, I knew exactly what I wanted to do for you!
I was cleaning up my studio, with all the bits laying about from all by other projects and inspiration hit.

It was fun to work on!
Thanks for inspiring us with the lovely brown fabric and your lovely block you posted!
Hope you like!

Thanks Everyone!

A BIG thank you to everyone who has been able to complete the block I requested for December. I appreciate some of you stepping outside of your comfort zone. Here is a look at what I have so far.

Another Star for Elaine

I had fun making another "wonky" star. This has become one of my favorite blocks! The girls picked out the center and I added hot pink and a deep purple for the points. I couldn't get a good picture for anything! I have been trying for the past couple of days. I figured I had better just get the block in the mail or it would be the end of February before you received it. LOL! Enjoy!!

My wonky stars blocks

I was very happy today...my blocks came in from Australia and The Yukon, wahoo! Ladies..you did a spectacular job, my heartfelt thanks. This is so cool, block(s) from overseas to warm myself with. You know, it just doesn't get any better then that...if you zoom in you can enjoy my weird obsession, pink flamingos, lol. Yeah, they're in the living room and the hubs just smiles.

Wonky log cabins done!

Hey ladies!
Just thought I'd post a picture, as I just now finished my top with all my bee balm blocks! I worked this thing over yesterday, adding every bit of scrap I could get my hands on...
I think I got nearly everything in it... except for a few clever bits sent in by a few of you... (LINDA)!! you know, pieces that were less then an 1/8"... ha ha!
Anywho. It miraculously, without planning it, fits my King size bed perfectly... Woo hoo!
Now on to quilting... I may actually, hand quilt this... I must be insane... since i have three others here for hand quilting and it may take me YEARS to get it done...
(or perhaps a bit of both, hand and machine to make it less painful....)

So thank you all, for your creative efforts!
I'm thrilled with it!

This is yesterdays post when it was still in the works...

Here's my block........

Because I messed up when I was cutting the background fabric, I decided to make my block from a piece the same size that I had sent to you all. I cut some 2 1/2" squares from the fabric and made a chequer board border piece. I cut the background down to 12 1/2" x 16 1/2", added the 4 1/2" border and ended up with my 16 1/2" square.

I ended up using a pack of squares from the Moda sampler box, 'Frolic' by Sandy Gervais. I love the oranges and yellows. I hope you're all ok with winging it?? I'm so looking forward to seeing what you all create.

Have a great weekend everyone, we're having a warm one again, love summer!!

February.........it's my month..........

Hi everyone,
I'm posting fabric later today so I'm hoping you all get it by February, especially you Viv, you must hate being last all the time :(
So, here's all the lovely bundles of fabric before I put them in the envelopes, don't they look gorgeous? I'm doing something totally different for my month...........
...........it's ok, you can breathe, it's not hard at all!!
This chocolate and white is the background fabric and that's all I'm sending, the rest is your choice..............? I'm making a 16" block with applique on it, using probably the fabrics below, mainly aqua, pinks, some blue and some green.
You can use whatever you like and put the block together however you like!!!
I'd like a finished size of 16", so 16 and a half I guess OR anything divisable to make that size! For example, 4 X 8" blocks or two panels of 8"X 16".........does that make sense??

I don't mind as long as I can fit them all together later. Your choice of piecing or applique, hand or machine stitched, stars, logs, flowers!! I just want something that you would make for yourself, you know, something that's you - not me! I'm hoping that the background will pull it all together later, what do you think? Am I mad? No, don't answer that it's rhetorical! Really it is!

I would like to be able to look at this quilt and tell my grandkids that Viv made this block and she lives all the way up here or Victoria made this one and she lives in New York and she loves that red, Elaine from Texas made this, etc, etc, you get my drift?

I'm starting my block this afternoon so I'll post a picture when it's done. I'm so excited about this quilt, I know it's going to be fabulous, so varied and unpredictable, I love it and it's not made yet. LOL!
EDIT:
To answer Elaine's question and a bit more clarification..........yes, beads, buttons, wool and felt are fine. I'm not a frilly, frippery girl so I would prefer it if you didn't put ribbons, bows or lace on, anything naive, prim, country or contempory is fine just not frilly and lacy please. I've posted the fabric but I've also discovered that I've stuffed up the cutting, so instead of getting a piece of fabric 22" x 17", which was what I thought I'd cut, you will get a piece that is only 13" x 22". If you want to do an applique square it will have to be 12" x 12" I guess! I told you it was going to be varied and gorgeous didn't I...............
Oh yes, and the only colours I really, really dislike are purple and neons. Cheers.

Back in the game!

I have to say all these beautiful blocks have helped me over the hump and I'm ready to sew again!! I also spent $$$ today with Sarah at the fabric store picking out a few dress patterns and material; even though she's applying for grad school, she'll be working this summer and needs to look "professional". Of course, she goes back to school Sunday, so I'll be what we call in the family "sweatshop sewing" tomorrow and Saturday. BUT---Sunday is mine, and I'm going to get December and January blocks done, or at least a healthy chunk of them!

Thanks for all your kind thoughts after LuLu....we are recovering....

December and January blocks

Hello ladies!!!! You know when it's my turn to send out I think I'll send a month early b/c my mail takes forever LOL. BTW, I think I have an idea in my head about what I want to do...I know it's months away, but I'm thinking pinwheels. Just a thought.

Anyway, here is the December block! What fun was this, I loved the scraps Solidia sent out.

And I was able to finish the January block as well! This one was a bit harder for me LOL. I discovered that during my average quilting day, I tend to be a bit obsessive about being precise. Which is such an eye-opener because in life I'm very "whatever". I don't follow recipes...I stitch/design cross stitch as I go...I usually end up wearing two different socks...I've dyed my hair blue...I'm not big on conforming. So you would think that this would be perfect for me. LOL...So I had to keep telling myself not to be exact...and now that I'm done, I'm worried I didn't go wonky enough! Thanks for stretching my quilting boundaries!

Dec/Jan Blocks

Here is my block for Elaine for January. This was a FUN block to make! I definitely will be revisiting this for myself. I think I'd make them a little smaller and just think of the small scrap pieces you could use. Great choice, thanks Elaine!
Solidia, Here is your block. I'm sorry it is late. All I can say in my own defense is that you just got lost (literally, I had to clean before Christmas) in the month that was December. But, better late than never.
The good news? The blocks are in the mail, ladies!
I'm ready for February. Happy quilting, friends!

january block

Hi all! Happy New Year!

Sorry Elaine, This photo is really bad.. it's dark out, my camera battery was dead, and this was the best my phone could do.... excuses, right? ;-)
I'll update the photo when my batteries are charged...
the fabric is actually light periwinkle, pink and with little red leaves , with a dark red center block...
Love the wonky stars... Always fun to make!
Hope you all are staying warm, because it is CCCOOOLLLDDD here!

I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date..............

...........or so says White Rabbit.
Sorry Solidia, it was always going to be a tight fit for the December block wasn't it? Anyway here it is, will be in the post tomorrow. I thought that I would take a photo out in the gorgeous, warm sunshine seeing that I'm the only one of us not in the deep, dark depths of winter! Yes I know, feel free to send me sunny photo's in August when I'm freezing (or at least the Australian version of freezing)!

This was new for me too as I've never done foundation piecing before, can't wait to see this one finished it looks so bright and breezy and what an easy block to do, lots of fun. I might have to look at this one for some stash busting for myself??

Ooohh, next month is my turn and I have my plans in place, so looking forward to it. I'm really enjoying this whole Bee. Tara are you still thinking of starting a second one, I'm interested if you are??

Waiting for Elaine's to arrive now. Oh yes and Happy New Year everyone, hope it's safe, happy and productive for us all.

Lizzie
