Hi Janet, i was so excited to be making a wonky house for you........my favourite way of messing around with fabric. Then life got in the way........no excuses, no worries but also no time to spread out stuff and sew.
Finally at 8.30 pm on December 31st, 2013 I have finally made your block. I'm sorry it won't arrive this month or even this year but it's finished, a smidgeon oversize so you can cut it down to fit.
Have fun putting together your quilt.
Hugs Sue.

Finally.....I finished a house
Janet,
I am not great at making houses. Working with things like this without a pattern is difficult.
I hope you like it. I can not wait to see what you will do with these houses.

Finally in the Mail
Janet, I finally got my block in the mail. Sorry for the delay. Look for it coming your way soon. Don't know if it will make it before Christmas, but it should definitely be there before New Years.

December block request
Hi all,
I know it is early but December is coming up and I know how busy everyone gets. I thought I would get my request out early so that you can work on it now instead of getting behind when you get swamped in the Christmas rush.
I would like you to make me a 12.5 inch wonky house block. When I say "wonky" I don't necessarily mean that the house has to be lopsided. What I mean is that I want you to use your imagination, creative juices and fun fabrics to make me a zany house block.
You can make me your own house, or a neighbour's house that is just too cool. You can make me an apartment, an igloo, a houseboat, a cabin or a bungalow, split level or duplex. Or even a mansion or castle. I would love if you would put extras in - like landscaping and people.
Or animals...
I thought of sending out fabric so that there would be a piece the same in all the blocks, but decided against that as I think it would be too limiting.
Have fun with this one! If you absolutely need a pattern, let me know and I'll find a few to choose from.

Blocks received.
Just a note to let Elisa and Beebee know that I have received their quilt blocks. They are wonderful, thank you so much. I will try to post a picture of them on my design wall sometime this weekend. I will first have to take down/finish up the quilt that is currently on there, though.

Karen and Nathalie's blocks
I will mail these blocks out tomorrow.
Nathalie - I was worried about all those 1/2 square triangle blocks amd little 9 patches but this block went together very easy. Hope you like it.
Karen - your churn dash is inspiring me to make a quilt for myself using this block and my 1930's reproduction fabrics.

Nathalie's November block
this was a fun and challenging block to construct. I hope you like it Nathalie! I will post it this week.
It looks crooked but it is really square. For some reason my camera will not give me a good shot of it.

November blocks
I received the block from Elaine and put it in with some blocks that I have been making. Thank you Elaine. As you can see it fits right in. I can't wait to get the rest of the blocks on my wall and then try and make a decision on setting this quilt. At one time I had them on point - that will be one huge quilt if I do that - then I thought about sashing - that is still on the table - the other choice is to just set them together side by side. So, stay tuned and see how this all plays out.

November Block
I just posted a tutorial on my website for the November block. The block is the Goose in the Pond block. Below are two pictures of what the block looks like. It is a 15" finished block.
my drawing of the block and color placement |
a finished block with red and blue fabrics |
I would like you to choose fabrics from your stash to make this block. The background is to be a white with black print. The outside 1/2 square blocks are to be from the Cool side of the color wheel (something from the green, blue, purple, blue-green, blue-violet families) The inside strips and 9 patches are to be from the Warm side of the color wheel (something from the red, orange, yellow, red-orange, Pink, yellow-orange families). It will be fun to see what combinations and fabrics you come up with for this block. Thank you in advance.

Blocks on the way!
Here is your block Marls...I mailed it last week. I hope you like it. I tried to use brights, but Nathalie REALLY has brights! The lady at the post office said if I put "fabric" or "quilt" in the item space, it will go through customs faster. So I printed my own postage at home and hopefully you should receive it soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
The red and white churn dash block was fun. I love this pattern..interestingly, I have never made one. I really had fun with it and am now determined to make one for me. I love red and white quilts. Thank you Karen, your block was also mailed out last week...did you get it yet?
For Brenda, I found some dots that I hope you like. Polka dots are one of my favorite mediums. I would love a polka dot sofa. Might me a bit much, but I think it would be fun!
I had to get my two trigger fingers fixed on the 26th of Sept and was an absolute baby about it. I was so afraid my fingers wouldn't work again...big baby! I just have to get my strength back in them now. Brenda, your blocks are going out in the morning. This is really fun. Thank you ladies, Elaine

The Borders are Done?
Now to quilt it.........I'm thinking I might stitch straight around all the yellow and stipple the coloured patches. This one will get a lot of use (and washing) so lots of quilting might hold it together well.
It's so much bigger than I planned too, no wonder Im dreaming 2 and a half inch squares!
Thanks again to everyone for your part in my new quilt.

October Assignment
I don't want you to think that I am jumping the gun, but I put my fabric in the mail yesterday. I wanted to give enough time for the envelopes to arrive in Australia and New Zealand.
I have posted the tutorial on my blog. I am sure that it is overly detailed for experienced sewers like you, but I thought that as long as I was writing a tutorial, it may as well be useful for new sewers too.

A glimpse of my quilt
I've been playing with my blocks lately but I hit a serious problem.
I didn't have enough background fabric to sash it all.
I'd bought the fabric in Bali when I went for a single day with my friend Bev.
What a good idea she had when she suggested we buy bigger pieces and divide it all between us when we got home.
A phone call, a few emailed photos and a couple of days in the mail and here is my flimsy.
Thanks for the fabric Bev.
I'm deciding about the borders now. Two or three, plain or pieced, do I insert cornerstones?
Help me please.
Thanks for all the blocks Bee Balmers, I love this quilt.
xxx Sue

Patchwork Chevron
Hi All,
Sorry I am so late with my blocks but at least they are in the mail for August even if you have not received them.
I have chosen to make a patchwork chevron quilt from a pattern by Jeni at In Colour Order that I came across at Moda bakeshop.
It is an easy block to put together but I love the end results so far from the blocks I have put together-in fact I just wanted to keep going.
I have sent out a 14inch square of grey dotted fabric and 4, 5inch squares. I am asking you to add 5 more squares and sew them into a nine patch. The squares can be any colour, plain or patterned and do not have to match the fabrics I have sent - I do love brights however..
So you have a nine patch block, and a grey square.
Draw a diagonal line across the grey square.
Place it right sides together on top of the nine patch and sew a seam a quarter of an inch on either side of the line.
Then cut on the line to yield effectively 2 half square triangles.
Hope that makes sense.
Excuse the photos-cropping, editing and blogger were not playing together today.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi All,
Has anyone received the July blocks as yet? Maybe mine are travelling the world first.

I have just moved house-from one end of New Zealand to the other and am still unpacking boxes, so no sewing has been done for weeks.
My new address is-
11A Owens Road
Waiuku
Auckland 2123.
New Zealand
Mail is being redirected from my old address so nothing should go missing.

Elisa's Block
Hi Elisa,
I finally have your block done and it is in the mail. Hope it travels south faster than your package travelled north! :)
My concussed brain had a "gap" when I was making Elisa's block and I cut the fabric wrong. But I think I found a pink that matches pretty closely to the purple. I hope you're happy with it Elisa.
San-Dee must be still recuperating from the wedding. :) Or has anyone else heard from her?

Checking In for July
Anyone know what we need to make for July? Or have we already made it and I am ahead of the game? I have been out of pocket the last several weeks and am just getting back on track so I thought I would check in to see what was what.
